Crafted from a combination of deep black denim and contrasting recycled cotton panels, Yana Kawsay reimagines the traditional poncho through a sculptural and contemporary lens. Its generous wrap-around construction creates a fluid silhouette that moves naturally with the body while conveying effortless elegance.
The design features a structured shirt collar, a front metal zipper closure, and a carefully engineered textile architecture that highlights the balance between volume, functionality, and sophistication. Its expansive proportions allow the garment to adapt to multiple styling approaches, functioning equally as a lightweight outer layer or a statement piece with ceremonial character.
Its defining feature is the striking two-tone contrast between the depth of black denim and a central ivory panel. This visual composition creates a powerful graphic statement, transforming the textile surface into an expressive design element.
The oversized, asymmetrical silhouette generates a sense of continuous movement. Angular finishing details reinterpret ancestral geometry through a contemporary perspective, resulting in a piece that transcends conventional categories of dress.
A specialized surface treatment enhances visual depth, texture, and material richness, highlighting both the integrity of the fibers and the artisanal craftsmanship behind the garment.
Designed for those who view clothing as a form of cultural expression, this piece brings together design, identity, and memory within a single creation.

Yana Kawsay is part of a limited-edition production developed through processes that integrate design, textile experimentation, and the responsible use of materials. The incorporation of reclaimed textiles extends the lifecycle of existing resources while reducing material waste.
As part of the Threads of Memory – Denim Legacy collection, this style is connected to the Creando Futuro educational program, developed in collaboration with students from the Fashion Technical Program at Carlos Ramírez París Educational Institution. Through design, art, and garment construction, participants gain exposure to real-world textile creation and product development processes.
Visible variations and imperfections are part of the garment’s authenticity and reflect the human touch present throughout every stage of its creation.
We recommend alternating wear to allow the fibers to naturally recover their structure and resilience.

STORY OF THE PIECE
Yana means black. Kawsay means life.
In Andean cultures, darkness does not represent absence—it represents origin. It is the place where the seed exists before becoming movement. Inspired by this worldview, Yana Kawsay interprets the relationship between shadow and light through a two-tone composition that symbolizes transformation, balance, and permanence.
The garment’s expansive form evokes ancient ceremonial cloaks historically worn as symbols of identity and protection. Its contemporary construction translates this legacy into a modern language where functionality coexists with artistic expression.
Each piece belongs to a limited-edition production conceived to preserve the memory of textile craftsmanship while projecting it toward future generations.
